5 Reasons You Should 1000% Elope in Greece

Olivia & Rene’s Santorini Elopement — May 20, 2025

Okay picture this:

You, your love, your fam, the bluest water you’ve ever seen, and the kind of sunset that makes you audibly gasp like you’re in a rom-com. That’s EXACTLY how Olivia & Rene did it — and let me tell you, it was a dream.

These two flew from NZ with their immediate families for a week in Santorini. Seven days of eating, exploring on quads, sunning, and laughing… and smack bang in the middle of it all, they said “I do” in front of the cutest little Greek church you’ve ever seen. Then they kicked back at Pyrgos Restaurant, watching the sun melt into the caldera while devouring a three-course feast (because if you can’t eat your body weight in feta on your wedding day, when can you?).

It was intimate, beautiful, and honestly? The stuff Pinterest boards cry over.

So if you’ve been flirting with the idea of a destination elopement — here are 5 reasons you should absolutely run away to Greece for your best day ever

1. The Sunsets Are Straight-Up Illegal

Like… how is this allowed?! The glow is unreal. The light? Golden. The vibes? Main character. Watching Liv & Rene soak it all in with a vino in hand was chef’s kiss perfection. Your photos will look like a Vogue spread. 12/10 guarantee.

2. The Weather Slaps

Forget backup rain plans. Forget goosebumps. Greece in May is the definition of stunning. Warm days, balmy nights, and all that delicious Mediterranean light. Your skin? Glowing. Your hair? Behaving. Your photographer? Screaming (in the best way).

3. The Food Will Change You

Spanakopita. Fresh seafood. Olive oil so good you’ll want to drink it. And don’t even get me started on the local Vinsanto wine. (Yes, I sampled… purely for research purposes). Olivia & Rene’s dinner at Pyrgos? Three courses of heaven with a side of views. Basically a Michelin-star moment with wedding rings.

4. Family Holiday + Honeymoon Combo = Genius

They brought their nearest and dearest over for a week — so it wasn’t just one day, it was a full-blown experience. Memories on memories. Then once the “I dos” were done? Boom. Off for an epic Euro adventure. Paris? Amalfi? Malta? Take your pick.

5. You Don’t Have to Lift a Finger ✨

The angels at Divine Weddings Santorini handled everything — florals, cake, styling, transport, menus, the lot. Liv & Rene were so chilled they could’ve napped through the ceremony (they didn’t, don’t worry).

They were in the best hands, and it showed.

Also… Olivia’s dress? Custom-made by Hayes Bridal in Auckland. Floaty, modern, obsessed. Perfectly matched the whitewashed walls and ocean views. 12/10 aesthetic moment.

I was lucky enough to tag along and capture it all — every tear, laugh, and golden glow. And yes, I fully leaned into the Santorini lifestyle: local wine, endless baklava, and soaking up every last drop of that Mediterranean magic. And maybe ended it with another few weeks of Mediterranean sun! Someone’s gotta do it, right?

So if you’re sitting there thinking should we elope in Greece?

The answer is: absolutely, obviously, hell yes.

Because you didn’t plan your iconic day for cookie-cutter photos 💜
